Lactation Consultation

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a specialist in the clinical management of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding support has been shown to increase breastfeeding initiation and duration, improve mental health, increase self-esteem, increase confidence, foster parenting skills, and improve the overall experience. A lactation consultant can assess your breasts and pertinent history prenatally to identify any potential challenges and assist postpartum with any breastfeeding challenges that do arise such as:

  • Painful latch
  • Slow weight gain
  • Fussy baby at the breast
  • Sore/injured nipples
  • Questions about supplementation
  • Milk supply concerns (too much or too little)
  • Breastfeeding after breast augmentation or reduction
  • Questions about pumping and storage
  • Feeling like feedings are too long
